Mariko Kita, MD

Dr Mariko Kita received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Johns Hopkins University and her medical degree from Northwestern University School of Medicine. She completed her internship in internal medicine at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and her residency in neurology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr Kita completed her fellowship in neuroimmunology at Mt. Zion Multiple Sclerosis Center, University of California School of Medicine. She joined Virginia Mason Medical Center and Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason in 2000. Dr Kita is currently Chief of Medicine, Virginia Mason Medical Center; Director, Virginia Mason Multiple Sclerosis Center; and Director, Neurology Clinical Trials, Benaroya Research Institute.

Denise Bruen, ANP-BC, MSCN

A Virginia native, Denise Bruen grew up in Reston, VA. She attended the University of Virginia for nursing and graduated in 1996. She then received her master’s degree in nursing from Rush University in Chicago, IL, in 2004.

Ms Bruen is an adult nurse practitioner and certified multiple sclerosis nurse. She specializes in caring for those living with MS. Ms Bruen has been a nurse practitioner at the University of Virginia since 2004 and has worked at the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic since 2010. She is the medical director for the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic and past president of the International Organization of Multiple Sclerosis Nurses.
