Educational Objectives
After completing this activity, the participant should be better able to:
• Demonstrate understanding of the epidemiology, burden, and stigma surrounding HIV risk and transmission
• Initiate a patient-clinician dialogue to discuss and assess sexual health and behaviors and determine HIV risk
• Utilize US Public Health Service (USPHS)/US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) clinical practice guidelines: Preexposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) for the Prevention of HIV Infection in the United States to appropriately screen and determine clinical eligibility for PrEP
• Initiate and provide ongoing monitoring for patients on PrEP for HIV prevention
This activity is presented by National Association for Continuing Education and Integritas Communications.
COURSE SUMMARY
Initiating an open and honest conversation with patients about their sexual health and determining clinical eligibility for preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is often challenging to many primary care providers (PCPs) who may feel uncomfortable and unprepared. This one-hour enduring webcast is designed to increase awareness among PCPs of their role in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) prevention, provide practical tools to improve their comfort and skills in opening dialogues about sexual health, and prepare them to provide full PrEP services.
